Event Description:
The Honey Pies, a new Madison “super group” to perform at Café Carpe.

The Honey Pies perform at Café Carpe, 18 S. Water St. W., Fort Atkinson, on Friday March 1, 2019, at 8:30 pm.

In September 2017 three veteran Madison musicians, vocalist Jodi Jean Amble, singer and guitarist Tom Waselchuk, and multi-instrumentalist Doug Brown, put together a set of material for a one-and-done performance at the annual Spring Green BeatleFest. Their set was enthusiastically received. The players came away feeling the spark of a kindred musical spirit, and so began The Honey Pies. A year’s worth of performances has only confirmed each member’s initial feeling that they’d stumbled onto something special.

The Honey Pies recently added bassist and vocalist Matt Rodgers to the band. Matt is an accomplished and busy bassist on the Madison scene, playing rock, pop, jazz, Latin, Afro-Pop, and more. He is a regular sideman with Mark Croft and many other singer-song writers and ensembles, and is a member Madison-based Americana band The Dang-Its.

Jodi Jean Amble traces her artistic roots to theater and then musical theater and opera. A classically trained vocalist, Jodi found her way into modern genres including jazz, country, rockabilly, bossa nova and pop. She works with some of the Midwest's finest musicians to complement her veracious tone and subtle poetry. Tom Waselchuk leads the MAMA Award-winning Americana band The Dang-Its, toured internationally with Harmonious Wail for ten years, and has performed for more than twenty years in a free-swinging guitar duo with multi-instrumentalist Doug Brown. Doug (also an alum of Harmonious Wail) has long been among the most in-demand freelance sidemen on the Madison music scene in a variety of genres, as well as being a band-leader, composer, and arranger.

The Honey Pies perform the best of traditional, contemporary, and original Americana music with
crystal harmonies and virtuoso instrumental skills.

The Cafe Carpe, is a family-friendly cafe and bar, with a listening room, housed in a century-old brick building on the Rock River, with a screened porch overlooking the water. The Carpe has a justly famous reputation as a great listening room and friendly home to regional and national touring artists.
