Free band concerts at Barrie Park on Monday evenings with ice cream social.

The 2018 dates are June 18, July 2, 16, 30, and August 13.  Bring your lawn chair.

In case of rain, the concert and social will move to Trinity Lutheran Church across the street from Barrie Park.

Directed by Wayne Crook, the band will perform starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Barrie Park bandshell. An ice-cream social sponsored by the Unity Project will begin about 6:30 p.m. and continue through the concert.

Forty-five musicians from Fort Atkinson and surrounding communities make up the band, which performs all styles of music for all ages to enjoy. The theme of the first concert is “Trip Across the USA,” making musical stops to 13 different locations across the United States.

Featured on the program will be violinist Angela Licarie performing Charlie Daniels’ popular country hit tune, “The Devil Went Down To Georgia.” Jesse Kaftanski will narrate the arrangement with the band.

A quartet of Zack Oster, clarinet; Judy White, trumpet; Lisa Amacher, trombone; and Jordon Nelson, tuba; will be featured in an arrangement titled “New Orleans Jam Session.”

The full repertoire for Monday’s program is: “Star-Spangled Banner,” “Virginia Beach March,” “Fall River Overture,” “Oklahoma,” “Hawaii Five-O,” “Belle of Chicago,” “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” “Gate City,” “I Left My Heart In San Francisco,” “Shuffle Off To Buffalo.” “New Orleans Jam Session,” “Yellow Rose Of Texas,” “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” and “On Wisconsin.”

Five concerts make up the summer series; they will take place June 18; July 2, 16 and 30, and Aug. 13.

The Fort Atkinson Parks Department sets up chairs. Concert-goers also may bring their own lawnchair to enjoy the free concert.
