Name: In Search of America
Date: November 10, 2018
Time: 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM CST
Event Description:
Does the name Marc Kornblatt ring a bell? If you are familiar with picture books, you remember him as the author of The Search for Sidney's Smile and Eli and the Dimplemeyers. If you have children or grandchildren in upper elementary grades, you may know him as the author of Izzy’s Place and Understanding Buddy. He is not as famous for his work as an actor in films, a TV series, and theater but he is a well-known producer, writer, director, and playwright.

Now living in Madison with his wife, two children, and their dog Gypsy, Marc has held many jobs over the years: public information officer, bartender, waiter, doorman, furniture mover, typist, staff reporter, freelance writer, elementary-school teacher, and - most important to us – storyteller!

At the Dwight Foster Public Library at 209 Merchants Avenue in Fort Atkinson, on Saturday, November 10th, at 1 p.m., Marc will present In Search of America, his hour-long documentary filmed over six months during the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election. The documentary starts and ends in Wisconsin; in between those two points, Marc travels to 13 other states, asking people from all walks of life about the major issues of the day. More than an election story, the film is a study in civil discourse, offering a personal portrait of America at a significant moment in our country's history.

Since premiering at the Twin Cities Film Festival, In Search of America has been screened at festivals in Iowa and Kentucky and at libraries in New Jersey and in Middleton.

Marc is currently producing a web series called Minuteman, a project featuring very short segments that combine fitness tips with social and political commentary.  He calls it “socially conscious fitness for sane minds in sound bodies.”  Library patrons are welcome to subscribe for free to the Minuteman YouTube channel in order to comment on the individual segments.  That will give viewers an opportunity to connect with Marc well before his visit to Fort Atkinson.

Marc will lead a discussion after the film. Be sure and join us for this stimulating program, which will be held in the community room with refreshments following the discussion. The Friends will also be holding a used book and media sale at the library that morning from 9:30 – noon.
