Stephen Riggs retires from Fort Atkinson Police Department

After nearly eight years with the Fort Atkinson Police Department Officer Stephen Riggs had his  last call Tuesday, Feb. 27. He was celebrated with a get together at the Fort Atkinson Police  Department.  

Riggs was hired by the Fort Atkinson Police Department in April 2016. He is also a part time Law  Enforcement Instructor at Blackhawk Technical College and served the Dane County Sheriff’s  Department for three years. Prior to his employment as a police officer, Riggs served his  country in the United States Navy from August 1988 to August 1993 and again from May 1997  to January 2013. He retired with the rank Lieutenant Commander.  

While in the Navy, Riggs was a Naval Officer, Naval Flight Officer, Helicopter Air crewman and  Rescue Swimmer.  

While in Fort Atkinson, Riggs held the position of patrol officer, was a member of the  Investigative Support Unit, Mobile Field Force, Firearms Instructor and Defense and Arrest  Tactics Instructor. Officer Riggs received a First Aid Award in 2021 and a Meritorious Service  Award in 2020. 

“Officer Riggs will be missed as he brought an energy and positive attitude with him to work  every day,” said Chief Adrian Bump.
